Getting to Know Succulents

Do you agree that gardening is good for your health? Definitely yes! Studies show that spending few minutes to an hour digging in your garden, no matter how big or small your planting space is, releases your stress and improve your mood.
I grew up in a house beside a river and surrounded by coconut trees, fruit-bearing trees, and even ornamental plants. I also believe that I inherited my parent’s “green thumb”. Though gardening is quite challenging in a highly urbanized, polluted area, I decided to utilize every small area in our apartment.
First it was herbs, and now I am attracted to succulents. Succulents are a group of plants that store water in their leaves. The leaves tend to thick and fleshy, but some species have thicker leaves than others. These plants have adapted to survive dry weather conditions throughout the world, from Africa to the deserts of North America. The well-known succulent plants include the aloe, cacti, and Jade plant (also known a lucky plant or money tree).  Succulents are good houseplants and make excellent display in dish gardens

Starting off with five plants, here is my recent addition to my mini garden. I call it “Thea’s Succulent Corner”, named after my daughter Thea.

rose cactus and two other cacti  in my DIY dish garden.
I’m still researching on the name of this plant and other cacti above. Can you help me, please? Head on the comment section and tell me. Thank you in advance 🙂

Mini-Garden by the Window

Did I already tell you that I have a green thumb, thus I can grow plants beautifully. I have grown ornamental plants before but some naughty cats destroyed them.
Since I am looking for a stress reliever, I decided to revive my mini garden next to our windows. I started last week by planting some ornamental and herbs. I have some hanging plants, too.
I’m dreaming of having lots of flowering plants and herbs in my garden. I already have Citronella, Oregano and Mint.

While searching for bits and pieces about gardening, I bumped into cool websites that contain ideas and inspiration on growing plants in small spaces. Ohh I have lots of ideas in mind right now. I am so excited to see my garden full of greens, hahaha.
